Machine Learning for Machine Intelligence
Machine learning is the underlying technology of various impressive recent applications, from self-driving cars and Go-playing programs to generative language models such as ChatGPT. In this talk, we will discuss the main ideas behind machine learning, what it brings new to computer science, and its relationship with statistics, data science, and artificial intelligence. We will also point out the related risks and threats.
Biography
Ethem Alpaydin received his PhD from Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne in 1990 and was a postdoctoral researcher at UC Berkeley in 1991. He is currently a professor at Özyegin University, Istanbul. His book “Introduction to Machine Learning” was published by the MIT Press, its latest (4th) edition appeared in 2020.
